K- Mex is a short phrase for Korean- Mexican. Lily Kim (Korean) and Carisse Zepeda (Mexican) collaborated in production with audio producers from Media Line Entertainment in South Korea to produce a unique and vibrant sound that combines traditional Korean music with Latin and Korean pop. Through this visual Lily and Carisse wanted to show how Korean music and Latin music are like each other. Korea and Latin seem very different but Lily and Carisse have come to realize that there are a lot in common especially in the music industry.
Lily requested to an audio producer in Korea at the Media Line Entertainment for a song remix. Lily took a part in curating the music to combine the traditional sound of Korea and Latin America in the beginning than how that later transfer into the Korean and Latin pop to show the relationship between the two.
With the original song, Lily and Carisse programmed computer generated visuals that respond to the amplitude on the music in combination with 3D modeling, and scanned images, and live action footage to allow viewers to experience an abstract visual journey of sound between Korean and Latin America.
Lily and Carisse are both students in Design Media Arts at UCLA and this project was in collaboration for Compressed Cinema Course.
It was shown to the public at UCLA Design Media Arts Department.
