The Department of Design Media Arts (DMA) hosted artist, Regents Lecturer and UCLA alumni Chico MacMutrie. MacMutrie will work with DMA students on elements of his "Border Crossers" artwork and conduct hands- on workshops on inflatable robotics at the DMA Fabrication and Electronics Lab.
Participants will work on a large four axes robotic inflatable that gets mounted to a performers body and is controlled with various technologies. Participants will learn how to prototype components, process inflatables, assemble the sculpture as well as research and implement new elements, and finally deploy the "Human dawning Border Crosser sculpture"
Lily was the fabricator and programmer for this project. She also performed for the project opening for the Department of Design Media Arts. Through this project Lily was able to learn about close loop inflatable systems, repairing and adapting high tensile inflatable structures, research and development on human- computer interaction, research and test different miniature camera solutions for on board system that can travel on the appendages of the machine in order to broadcast a life feed from machine's point of view; which audience can pick up on there cell phones or transmit live feeds on the internet.
